Hi... well same thing happened again to me.. same spot. Right after my bike was sitting at work for maybe 2 hours this time. Started it up.. waited maybe a minute... rode down the road.. smelled gas. Pulled in the clutch and it died... started it up... wouldn't hardly idle... and gas dripping under the bike. This has only happened once since the first time it did it.. .. maybe 6 or so starts from then. If it was a stuck float wouldn't it just stick and that is it? I am really just wondering if anyone has had this happen? Going to get new tires tomorrow morning. Maybe I will bring it up there.... but mainly don't want to be stuck. Well. Just lookin for some input... Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem, So I stripped the carb blew out all the jets with comp air could not remove the pin the holds the floats,so put air through the float valve, bent the brass tab up a bit so it seated propperly, changed the plug, took it for a blat and all is well so far.

Nate - what position is your fuel tap in? It really sounds like you are on the Prime position instead of the run position. The carb is tilted over when you park anyway and the pressure of the fuel in the prime position is forcing gas past the shut off needle in the carb - flooding the engine and leaking out under your bike
Check that position as a first step and let us know

You are not dumb. Never ever would I suggest that of any rider.
I am working from memory as my Savage is tucked away still in winter storage.
I think if you look closely at the silver plate behind the fuel tap level - you will see engraved on the plate res-on-prime. I think the "on" position is down and the "prime" position is pointing forwards. This engraving is hard for my old eyes to read - but it is there.
Put the lever in the ON position (down I think) - I am suspicious that solving your problem might be this simple - at least I hope it is!
The tap may be stiff to move from position to position - the valve on mine is hard enough to move that sometimes I have to use pliers with a rag over the metal to protect it from the teeth on the pliers.

dont feel bad NATE, it takes a bit to get it all down. lord knows i dont know it all. on my 99 and i assume they are all the same. down is run, forward is res. and back is prime. strangely enuff exactly backwards from my honda i used to have. good luck. hang in there. you will get it.
